Application for mobile phone (midlet) is distributed in form of two files, having JAR and JAD extentions.

JAD is a small text file (less than 1Kb), containing description of midlet. Some phones (like Siemens 65 series) does not require JAD file during midlet installation, but some midlet will not work properly, if installed without JAD file.

JAR file is archive, containing application code and data. JAR file has format, similar to ZIP. JAR file can be extracted and viewed with ZIP utilities.

Many phones has maximum JAR file size limit. Common values for MIDP1.0 phones are 64Kb. Phone will refuse installing midlet, if JAR file size is large than maximum allowed value. JAR size limit depends on phone model.
