| In short, ClearType technology uses special features of TFT display to increase horizontal resolution. Pixel on TFT display consists of three separate red, green and blue sub-pixels, so TFT display indeed has 3x resolution. Since sub-pixels are small, user sees single color pixel.

| ClearType technology slightly changes pixel color depending on pixel area, covered by letter, thus theoretically increasing horizontal resolution by 3.
